Many meal plans exist. Choosing the right one can be confusing. Find out how to choose one.

I’m not a medical professional, but it seems to me that diets work because they require a reduction in calories. That’s true whether eating low-carb or vegan. If a significant reduction in calories occurs, weight loss occurs.

More people need to consider weight loss maintenance. Whether or not a style of eating works long-term plays a key role in staying slim. Money also plays a big role.

Why do all the hard work if the hard work proves unsustainable?

Successful diets must encompass health, affordability, and pleasurability. These elements help prevent rebounding to bad habits. Healthy, delicious foods that cater to the wallet abound as long as people learn how to cook, how to order when dining out, and how to research new foods and dishes.

Furthermore, a meal plan must allow for the occasional treat. That may equate to eating one chocolate square a day or eating one meal full of less healthy food every two weeks. Gratification proves essential, it just needs to occur at a reduced caloric intake.

Personality, lifestyle, and personal beliefs play a large role in all of these factors. That’s why a friend’s diet may not be the best option.

Finally, perhaps it works better to call the way one eats something other than a “diet” since that word often connotes a rigid, punishment-like meaning.
