Ways to Relieve Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibro Daily August 16, 2012

Those suffering fibromyalgia pain know that the tender spots can often be debilitating. Worse, they can appear at the most inconvenient times. But here are some easy ways to relieve that pain and get back to living:

Relieving Fibromyalgia Pain

Stick to a Strict Meds Routine

Your healthcare provider will be able to determine the best course of action for pain medications. It is important to stick to the directions and times provided, because preventing pain involves strict protocol. When pills are delayed, the previous dosage has a greater chance of wearing off, leaving the patient vulnerable to encroaching pain. The idea is to to go from dosage to dosage without pain creeping in. So make sure to keep pills handy in a purse, briefcase, or traveling bag; then take them as advised. Avoid alcohol so as not to interfere with pain meds and to prevent a possible lethal mix.

Go for Regular Massages

Find a nearby place for a massage, and talk to the owner about what you need. Massage is such an available option in most cities now, and requires little preparation other than discussing what kind of pressure is needed as well as the areas that need to be massaged. Another option is to check with a local fibromyalgia support group for references, or your doctor. Massage creates a relaxing affect, which is something that people who suffer from chronic aches and pains need. Massage also promotes sleep and clearer thinking.

Avoid Lifting Heavy Objects

Lifting heavy objects puts unnecessary pressure on the body and for a fibromyalgia patient, this can lead to even more trauma. Arrange to have help with the housework and groceries. Often, students needing extra money will be more than happy to meet up once a week to carry in bags from the car and put away new items, or to vacuum.

Reducing fibromyalgia pain just requires some ingenuity and adjustment.
