Fibromyalgia Drug Approved to Treat Depression

A version of the drug used for treating fibromyalgia, milnacipran, brand name Savella, has been approved by the FDA as a treatment for major depression. Levomilnacipran, brand name Fetzima, is a single-enantiomer version of the fibromyalgia drug, and is a dual inhibitor of both serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake.

The drug does, however, have an adverse reaction rate of 5%, and includes such side effects as nausea, vomiting, erectile dysfunction, palpitations, a faster than normal heart-rate, and increased sweating and perspiration.
