Fish Oil May Help Treat Major Depression

Most Americans have a deficiency of  DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oil, which  is essential for proper brain function. The University of Wollongong, Australia, has recently done a medical study that suggests that increasing the concentration of DHA can reduce the symptoms of major depression.After a 16-week study, researchers tested the red blood cell membranes of participants for DHA levels and found a 16 percent increase in the fish oil group, and only an 8 percent increase in the placebo group. This increase in DHA levels was also correlated with a reduction of the symptoms of depression.
