Genetically engineered tomatoes create a peptide that functions like good cholesterol.

In other words, it actually mimics good cholesterol.

According to senior study author Dr. Alan M. Fogelman, executive chair of the department of medicine and director of the atherosclerosis research unit at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, this is one of the first instances of a peptide that acts like good cholesterol and whose benefits can be derived from simply eating the plant.
