Because October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, helping those at your job who suffer from illnesses or injuries that affect their workplace comfort and performance is a wonderful idea that can be extended throughout the year.
It seems that this would also be a great time to educate people about the common misconceptions about fibromyalgia or other issues that people suffer from, as long as those who are affected with a certain condition are comfortable and agree to share information about it. You don’t want to put anyone on the spot.
Speak to your boss—and if that’s you, congratulations!– about how to disperse this type of information. It may seem a bit uncomfortable to have a meeting, especially in a big office. Emails and memos are a great place to start. It is so simple to email streamlined information that helps make the workplace environment better for everyone, not just those with disability/illness issues.
