“Obese But Happy” Gene Discovered

An “obese but happy” gene has been discovered by scientists.

The gene is called FTO, and it plays a big role in obesity. It also decreases a person’s chance of developing depression by eight percent.

“The difference of eight per cent is modest and it won’t make a big difference in the day-to-day care of patients. But, we have discovered a novel molecular basis for depression.”

But a 2010 study states that depression goes hand-in-hand with obesity.

Either way, fibromyalgia patients need to pay attention.
