Poor Maintenance of Body Temperature Thought to Cause Fibromyalgia

New research has claimed to find a pathological cause for fibromyalgia: alterations in core body temperature. The body requires the maintenance of a constant temperature, but researchers claim that sufferers from fibromyalgia cannot maintain this constant temperature in their muscles and major organs. When aterio-venous shunts, valves between arterioles or veins which act as internal thermostat controls, are defective, muscle and skin tissue do not receive proper nutrition, and can cause a build-up of lactic acid in muscle and deeper tissue, resulting in fatigue and pain that “travels” from areas of the body, symptoms commonly reported in cases of fibromyalgia.
