Protein Found to Cause Stress and Anxiety

Fibro Daily July 23, 2013

Using one of the world’s most powerful x-ray machines, scientists have found a protein that causes feelings of stress and anxiety. CRF1, a protein found in the outer membranes of pituitary cells, detects stress molecules. When it detects one of these molecules, it triggers parent cells to release stress and anxiety hormones. Using this model, researchers are hopeful that it could lead to a potential cure for disorders related to stress, anxiety, and depression, and the research method itself could lead to promising treatment for other diseases, such as type 2 diabetes.
