Spine Patient Pain Improves with Smoking Cessation

Fibro Daily March 22, 2013

Smoking increases the risk of back pain and disc disease. Now, a new study recently presented at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), shows that smoking cessation leads to a significant reduction of pain among 6,779 patients in treatment for spinal disorders with:

  • severe axial (spine)
  • radicular (leg) pain

This study supports an earlier quit smoking post on the FibroDaily blog. If you want to quit smoking, don’t hesitate to speak to your doctor. There are also plenty of online stop smoking resources.
