For this of us with chronic back pain, finding the right treatment can be a huge pain. It seems that for every doctor or health professional that you ask, you get a different opinion about what treatments work best and which should be avoided.
Traditionally, doctors have opted for more conservative treatment approaches over aggressive treatments. After all, the logic goes, back pain tends to come and go. It will likely go soon enough (but tell that to anyone currently suffering from it – especially somebody with Fibro !)
More recently, according to this study, more patients these days are being treated with advanced imaging, narcotics and surgery, while acetaminophen (Tylenol) use declined by 50% over the study period. Referrals to physical therapists remained the same.
