Age and Chronic Fatigue Differences

Fibro Daily February 27, 2013

Is it possible that chronic fatigue differs depending on the age one gets it?

According to a piece by Fibro and CFS Adrienne Dellwo, new research supports that chronic fatigue after 50 differs from chronic fatigue that starts at a younger age. This research suggests that after 50, CFS symptoms cause:

  • More severe fatigue
  • More depression
  • More autonomic dysfunction, with less parasympathetic and increased sympathetic function

Much less baroreflex sensitivity (aids in blood pressure maintenance)

  • Slower pumping of the left ventrical

Based on this research, it might be worth reviewing your treatment options with your doctor, to make sure all age-related needs are being addressed.
