Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is not only dangerous for the person who suffers from it, but annoying to the people who must suffer the snoring. If you find yourself getting the elbow while sleeping—i.e. getting poked so you stop snoring—then you may have OSA.
People with fibromyalgia report higher incidents of OSA. But if you haven’t been diagnosed yet, think about how many times you have been poked to quit snoring.
Another concern would be if your partner pokes you because you appear to stop breathing.
As OSA increases in severity, the more likely the person is to be awakened for the two above incidents. It is important to report these incidents to your doctor, as OSA is linked to several serious issues, including stroke. Paying attention to these incidents can help doctors diagnose and treat OSA.
