Researchers recently conducted a study on pain hypersensitivity related to early menopause. Early menopause is classified as menopause beginning at age 49 or younger.
Andrea Dwello’s About.com fibromyalgia page says that the study shows:
- Those with fibromyalgia had greater overall pain sensitivity than healthy controls;
- Among fibromyalgia subjects, those with early-onset menopause had greater pain and non-pain sensitivity than those with late onset.
Of course, menopause aggravates fibromyalgia flares no matter when it occurs. Speak with your doctor about a plan that will help you deal with those changes rather than waiting for them to occur, then suffering needlessly when caught off-guard.
