Acupuncture as a Treatment for Fibromyalgia

Multiple studies suggest that acupuncture may be an effective for treatment for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. In 2008, a study showed that after being treated with 20 times, participants saw significant improvements in quality of life and reduction in pain which lasted for 3 months after the treatment ended. A meta-analysis of acupuncture as a treatment for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue suggests that it’s a beneficial treatment, but requires further research. A study using brain imaging suggests that acupuncture works by raising the threshold for pain.
