New research has shown that a combination of antidepressants and pregabalin can successfully manage pain in patients with fibromyalgia. Previous clinical trails conducted with pregabalin excluded patients on antidepressant drugs, and though the combination was found to be effective, 77.3 percent of patients in the trail faced adverse effects. However, 59.9 percent of patients given a placebo also faced adverse effects, and the most common side-effect was dizziness and somnolence.
Up to 70% of patients with fibromyalgia have a lifetime history of depression.
