A rare type of B cell may hold the key to treating severe autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

The treatment consists of reproducing the B cell in the lab then putting it back into the body.

B cells are the part of the immune system that create antibodies to fight bacteria and viruses. But there is a subset of these B cells that fights these immune responses.
