Brain Scan May Determine Most Effective Treatment for Depression

Scientists have identified a region of the brain which can demonstrate which treatment would be more effective for a patient, talk therapy or medication.

The anterior insula, the part of the brain that is associated with monitoring the internal state of the body, becomes activated during times of extreme distress .

Patients with a less active anterior insulate tend to respond better to cogntive therapy, while those with a more active one respond best to the medication Lexapro
