Lyrica Info

Fibro Daily November 9, 2012

The Lyrica commercial has been running on TV for some time now. Lyrica is made for the treatment of fibromyalgia. But how does this medicine work?

First, you fibromyalgia patients understand this, but for the general public: fibromyalgia pain differs from headache pain or a sprain or anything really. Fibromyalgia causes nerve pain, and that requires a specific type of medicine. Therefore, regular over-the-counter options are not approved for treating fibromyalgia pain.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Lyrica for everyday use, as fibromyalgia pain must be treated proactively. Because of the strength of Lyrica, it requires a prescription. If someone has experienced problems with drugs or alcohol, they may be likely to abuse the medication, so it is important to be honest with about any such addictions. Also, Lyrcia is not appropriate for everyone, past addictions or not. Not all drugs work for all people.

But if nothing else seems to be working, speak to a doctor about Lyrica. Only then will you know if it’s a good option for you, or if perhaps you should try something else. That’s why you need to speak up when it comes to your doctor visits. Ask questions, and offer information. Only then will you find the best treatment.
