Fibromyalgia and Lyme disease share a couple of obvious similarities; both are difficult to diagnose, and both are not widely accepted by the mainstream medical community. To make matters more complicated, patients often have a very difficult time describing the pain, sensitivity, bladder and bowel problems, depression & anxiety, brain fog, and other common symptoms that are often present.
When a diagnosis is confirmed, the search for treatment begins. But could Lyme and Fibro patients be looking for the same answers? While the research is not conclusive, some believe that the shared symptoms, the characteristic ‘dormant’ period experienced by chronic Lyme patients, could lead to a shared cause. It is important to note that Lyme had been linked to over 300 other diseases and chronic conditions. Could Fibromyalgia be one of them? If so, the search for treatment could start with a diagnosis of Lyme.
